L — Why is my child clinging to me all day?! Why won’t he play on his own? Why does he play with something for one second and then come crawling to me? Look, there are so many factors involved (teething, hunger, rest, open ended toys, minimal distractions etc) but one thing is for sure: young babies won’t play independently without having time to connect with a caregiver. Don’t let this overwhelm, let it help empower you to be intentional with time you can give. A caregiver is with the child ANYWAY during a diaper or bottle, make that time count when you can. Magda Gerber said that in the RIE Educaring® approach: babies are “refueled” by such unhurried, pleasurable caring experiences, that then infants are ready to explore their environment with only minimal intervention by adults. This is why I tell parents, even if you’re not home all day, but you are present during that one diaper or that one bottle, don’t pass it off and put your phone away, even 10 minutes means more than a “half present” 24 hours. Think about it as if a child has a tank that needs to be fueled in order to hit the play pavement. Without that, they don’t want to play on their own, they’ll spend all day with an empty play tank. Fill the tank when you can and watch what happens. (and if you’re able to watch your baby play, that’s a bonus, they feel that presence/security too) #playtank

First, they filled the tube with cold air, then carried it out into the sunshine. Before trying it, they paused to make predictions — What do you think will happen? Why? Then came the moment of discovery. ☀️ As the tube warmed in the sun, learners noticed changes—and also ran into challenges. Parts of the tube would fail, not working the way they expected. Instead of stopping, learners stepped into problem-solving mode: adjusting materials, rethinking their approach, and trying again. Each attempt sparked more curiosity: “Why didn’t it work that time?” “What can we change?” “What’s happening inside?” This experiment supported rich learning in cause and effect, heat energy, air movement, engineering, and the scientific process. Learners practiced persistence, collaboration, critical thinking, and learning from trial and error.
