URGENT CALL TO ACTION: The family of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell is facing a very important court date on Monday, March 2 at 8:30 AM. As @ladaoffice @nathanhochmanda is shamefully trying to drop the case against killer cops Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon, siding with the defense, the system is trying to leave his family with no one in their corner, but the family has always had us, they have always had community. From days after his murder on December 9, 2018 to now, for almost eight years, we have organized and won. We are facing another hurdle, together, this court date could determine the rest of the outcome of this case. It is a critical juncture and we need you there. His mother and the family’s attorney will be speaking in court to appeal to not have the charges dropped, they need you more now than ever. Please do what you can to make it and bring folks with you. On December 9, 2018 a young and Black Christopher Deandre Mitchell was killed by Torrance police officers. The authorities claimed he was armed and in a stolen vehicle. Later it was clarified that the alleged firearm was a toy rifle. The family of Christopher felt they already had their mind made up to shoot him because within 15 seconds of approaching him, that’s what happened. The officers were let off the hook and able to continue working meanwhile the entire family of Christopher Deandre Mitchell was left to grieve a precious life that was stolen from them. He was unarmed yet met with guns by police officers. Those same police officers, the killers, were not prosecuted...translating as their actions being okay and excusable—- some would even say standard. We must hold police officers accountable and to a higher standard. To demand justice in the name of Christopher DeAndre Mitchell, visit my story or bio to sign the petition. The family feels the death of Mitchell is being swept under the rug. His case has no significant media coverage, so the system can get away with no justice for the family. On this day, we mark the angelversary of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell. Six years ago, at just 22 years old, Christopher, a beloved son, nephew, cousin, and friend was killed by Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon, formerly of #TorrancePD. Christopher complied with the conflicting orders of the police who killed him within 15 seconds of approaching the vehicle he sat in at a Ralph’s parking lot. These killer cops were caught up in a messaging scandal that predated his murder, which involved at least 30 cops from the department where they messaged about lynching Black people, breaking the headlights of Black people’s cars so they had an excuse to pull them over, talked about his family, and talked about lying to a DA about this shooting. From the call we got shortly after he was murdered, to the vigil, to the messaging scandal, to every court date (because these cops are now facing felony charges for his murder), to everything in between and after, we will always stand with his family. His family fought hard for a bill that keeps all of us safer, the Kenneth Ross Jr. Police Decertification Bill, so now we are all a little safer because cops like Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon can’t be cops anywhere in the country. Today and every day we fight for justice in the name of Christopher. #BlackLivesMatter

Wednesday, 1/15 at 8:30 am, at 210 West Temple (9th floor, dept. 108) we will be back in court to support the family of #ChristopherDeAndreMitchell. Christopher was murdered by killer cops Anthony Chavez and Matthew Concannon of Torrance PD in a Ralphs parking lot as he sat in a car within 15 seconds of them approaching him. As the political climate continues to shift nationally and locally, we need to make it clear to the newly appointed prosecutor on the case, DA Hochman, and the judge that we are still demanding accountability and are watching this case- we are committed to supporting this family and ensuring that these killer cops are off the street permanently.
