GWSome dancers don’t stand out because they’re missing the flashy tricks, they blend in because they’re missing the details.
Here are 5 reasons you might not be standing out in class, rehearsal, or on stage, and how to fix it:
1. You’re dancing too safely: You’re marking the movement instead of fully committing to it.
➡ Fix it: Take bigger risks. Bigger movement, bigger intention, bigger presence.
2. Your focus is inconsistent: Your eyes tell the audience where to look—if your focus is disconnected, so is your performance.
➡ Fix it: Be intentional with your eyes, head, and facials.
3. You rush through the movement: If everything is the same speed, nothing feels important.
➡ Fix it: Use contrast. Hold, suspend, attack, and breathe through movement.
4. You’re not finishing movement: Stopping short makes choreography look unfinished and small.
➡ Fix it: Complete every line all the way through your fingertips, toes, and energy.
5. You’re waiting to be noticed: Confidence reads before technique does.
➡ Fix it: Walk in like you belong there. Presence starts before the music does.
If you feel like you’re blending in:
📌 Stop trying to “look right” and start trying to communicate something.
📌 Watch yourself on video—the camera catches what you miss.
📌 Perform every combo like someone important is watching.
The dancers who stand out aren’t always the most flexible or the biggest turners, they’re the ones you can’t stop watching.
