I created this digital cookbook because I wanted Sophia to feel more independent in the kitchen. I didn’t want to constantly tell her what to do — I wanted her to see it, try it on her own, and feel like she was in control. That’s why I made these visual, step-by-step recipes for little chefs. 🤍 It’s been such a reminder that toddlers don’t always need “easier” — they just need things explained in a way they can understand. If you want the link, just comment “cookbook” #toddlerkitchen #kidscookbook #toddlereats #montessoriathome #littlechef #cookingwithkids #toddleractivities #busytoddler #gentleparenting #momlife

If you want the cookbook with simple recipes kids can help make, comment “cookbook” and I’ll send you the link. They keep saying “let her play, let her be a kid.” I’ve heard that from many people. But many don’t realize that children thrive when we include them, when we trust them, and when we create a space where they can be independent and proudly say, “I did it.” If she has a choice to play or cook, she will often choose cooking. She’s not forced to do it — she thrives when I let her. And using visuals that guide her step by step allows her to do it on her own, without me constantly telling her what to do. It gives her confidence, independence, and so much pride in what she makes. And honestly… food just tastes better when you made it yourself. #toddlerindependence #cookingwithkids #toddlermomlife #raisingindependentkids #toddleractivities

Here’s how it works ⬇️ Each child takes turns to cook (because this is supposed to be a good experience, not an argument over who gets to grate the carrots!) We do it once a week on Thursday. They pick the recipe and make sure we have all the ingredients. If they want to make something specific they need to make sure they’ve got the items on the shopping list. When it’s time to cook it’s all them! We obviously supervise but they put things in the oven, use the big knives.. all the things we usually do for them. They plate up, set the table and help clear the table afterwards. Here are a few things we’ve noticed since starting this: - they really look forward to their week (only doing it once a week makes it achievable) - they’re scared to do certain tasks but have so my pride in themselves when they do them. - they’re trying different foods (before tonight they would have turned their nose up at mushroom gravy) - they’re encouraging each other and complementing each others cooking - they discuss any challenges of the cook and anything they’d do differently - they appreciate mum and dad’s cooking more 😆 The biggest thing is, they’re more confident in themselves and their abilities, not just in the kitchen. I’m noticing more of a “can do” attitude in general. So let me know, do you do this at your place or is this something you’d try?

Every parent dreams of raising kids who can take care of themselves, and that includes in the kitchen! If you’re the kind of mom who wants your children to grow up confident with a knife (and not just in their homework!), you’ve found the right place. Watch them learn, taste, and create with me. As a Home Economics teacher, I see a gap in our schools: there’s no official cooking curriculum in primary school up to age 16. That’s why I started Wooden Spoon Kids, a weekly online cooking club where children explore recipes, develop essential kitchen skills, and gain the confidence to cook for themselves. From chopping and mixing to experimenting with flavours, every lesson is hands-on, fun, and designed to make healthy eating exciting. It also brings families together, cooking and eating together, trying new recipes and ingredients, and inspiring healthy eating habits. If you’re a parent who wants your children to grow up confident in the kitchen, and maybe even love it, this is the place to start. Join us and watch them discover the joy of cooking! Comment Cooking Club below and I’ll send you the booking link.

Yes, I cook with my toddler a lot, but it’s not what you think! 🫣 I can only handle so much play time so I started including my toddler in the kitchen more often. What started out as an occasional task here and there turned into full-blown recipes and I started replacing play time with “mommy and me” kitchen time. Now, I can’t cook without her 🥹 I love that she loves being in the kitchen - something I never experienced as a kid - and I’m so happy I leaned into making recipes toddler-friendly. If you want your child to love cooking with you I have a free list of 50 kitchen tasks to get you started (great for 18 months-4 years old). Comment “TASKS” and I’ll send it straight to your inbox!
