THWhat would your life look like if you entertained all possibilities?
This openness is part of what I call “widening” your life, and I’m talking about it on this episode of The Gathering Room.
Here’s how you can choose each day to widen your life, which means enriching the depth and quality of things:
🌱 Choose experiences that will add something to your fund of wisdom and joy.
😌 Really be present with that experience.
💕 Make sure you’re with the people you love.
For me, being open to more means that instead of not believing anything until it’s proven true, I entertain anything until I’m convinced it’s false.
When I made that change, I started believing all kinds of things. Some of them turned out not to be true, and I’m okay with that. I was trained as a social scientist, so I look at things and say, “It has to test out.”
For example, if I have a psychic experience of a loved one doing something in a given place, it has to test out with that person’s experience. I can’t just sit around having willy‑nilly fantasies and then telling everybody they’re real. That’s not where I go.
I’m very, very into testing things intellectually, the way we test things in social science, but I’m also open to a whole bunch of things that aren’t part of our materialist society. ✨

THI almost didn’t post this.
When I said this out loud during the conversation it kind of stopped me in my tracks.
Growing up, people always told me
“you’ll land on your feet.”
And it was always meant as a compliment.
Like I was capable. Resourceful. The guy who would figure it out.
But somewhere along the way I think I heard something else.
If you’ll always land on your feet…
then you probably don’t need help.
If you’ll be fine…
then you should already know what you’re doing.
And after hearing that long enough, you start feeling like asking for help means you’re failing some expectation that was quietly placed on you.
Like you’re supposed to be more competent than you actually feel some days.
Truth is… sometimes you do need help.
And saying that out loud felt strangely freeing.
Maybe more of us are carrying that around than we admit.
