CIDIY home projects: Worth it or not!?
I love seeing people’s DIY projects but I always wonder how they feel about them years later.
So here’s the real scoop behind some of mine!
1. Laying flooring in my daughter’s room. This was a SUPER physical job and it was very time consuming because it took me awhile to get the hang of the technique (my own fault; I watched a bunch of YouTube videos that actually led me astray because they were a different process than the @hewnfloor product I was using, which has its own unique install method. 🤦🏼♀️) But once I got in the swing of things it went quickly, was VERY satisfying, and three years later we’re still super pleased with it. 9/10 because my knees haven’t been the same since. 🤣
2. Limewashing our brick fireplace. I went viral for this one, mainly because of haters chewing me out for dishonoring the brick 🙄. But I haven’t looked back since doing it because it’s a centerpiece of our space and absolutely set the tone for everything I’ve done since. Stay tuned because I have to do the back side of the fireplace as part of the finishing touches in our kitchen reno—since the newly enlarged kitchen now includes that brick stairwell.
3. Checkerboard Cubby Storage: For the record, we still have this and use it as Halo’s book storage. And it’s super cute. But it hasn’t aged well because MDF furniture really doesn’t take paint well even when you prime it. And it was a TON of tedious work. So, I wouldn’t do it again, I’m on the lookout for new playroom storage that doesn’t look like a dog chewed it. 🤣
