Whether you're new here or a longtime Panger (pls stop calling yourself that), wanted to explain what I'm all about. I don't expect this vid to go super popular, but social media in its most utopian sense is about having fun and saying what's on your mind, so I'm gonna do that.

I'm counting down my favorite music videos from my career, and now we're at #3: "Midnight In A Perfect World," directed by @bpleasel. This was my first music video, and I was heavily involved, practically scripting each shot. The idea was for all of the visuals to represent the different sampled elements, with nothing superfluous. We spent tons of time in post with a crackerjack Hollywood editor, and I was ecstatic with the end result. Click the link in bio to watch the whole video!

“This is just my little nirvana.” @djshadow In the amazing 2001 documentary ‘Scratch’, we meet DJ Shadow in the now famous Sacramento record shop appropriately named ‘Records’. Over 25 years ago, DJ Shadow was probably spending his Friday afternoon lost in stacks of records in this shop’s basement, searching for the samples that he would bring together on his legendary album ‘Endtroducing…’ In this clip, DJ Shadow touches on the spiritual nature of digging for records. When I meet you all at events and such, so many people say that even more so than camera phones and CDJs, the thing that is most different about the earliest days of this scene is how the record shops used to be the center of the underground ecosystem. It’s where you would go to not only discover music but also meet other like minded people. At night time, the community came together at the clubs, but in the day time, it was at the record shops. Today, we have apps like Spotify spitting us music recommendations, but in the record shop, you had employees who actually knew you and your music preferences, adding a human element to music discovery that was based in real life relationships. Being new to this music and also born in 1994, this is an experience that I feel like I missed out on, but there are still amazing record shops with passionate people running them, and it’s something I’m planning to seek out more in the upcoming year. It’s a question I’d like to ask all of you who lived this era… how important were record shops to the health of the underground scene, and was it truly a spiritual experience to finally find a record you heard your favorite DJ play in the club?
