Dogs might not speak our language, but they feel deeply—from joy and love to fear and confusion. Certain human behaviors can leave your pup feeling scared, rejected, or anxious.
🔍 5 Things That Can Hurt Your Dog’s Feelings:
😠 Getting angry at them – Dogs don’t understand anger the way we do. Yelling or punishing just creates fear and breaks trust.
🙃 Teasing them repeatedly – What seems like harmless fun (e.g. pretending to throw a ball or teasing with treats) can make them feel confused, frustrated, or anxious over time.
🦴 Taking food away while they eat – This can lead to food guarding. Imagine eating and someone keeps grabbing your plate—stressful, right?
😢 Pushing them away when they show affection – Dogs express love through licking and closeness. Rejecting it can make them feel unwanted or insecure.
😨 Ignoring their fears – Whether it’s thunder, vacuum cleaners, or fireworks, forcing them to “get over it” can worsen the fear and damage trust. Comfort, don’t correct.
💡 Studies show that dogs experience emotions similar to a 2–3 year-old human child—they can feel joy, fear, anxiety, and yes, emotional pain. They may not hold grudges, but they do remember how we make them feel.
🐶 Which of these surprised you the most—or have you ever accidentally done one of these without realizing it? Let’s talk in the comments 💬👇🏻
