3 things Denmark changed in me 1. I stopped weighing myself. When I lived in Korea, I checked my weight regularly. It was normal to always know your number. In Denmark, I do not even own a scale. If I feel heavier than usual, I simply move more and eat a bit healthier. I no longer panic over small changes like 0.5 or 1 kilo. I also realized that nobody here really cares if your stomach shows a little when you sit down. That quiet pressure slowly disappeared. 2. I stopped constantly comparing myself to others. In Korea, life can feel measurable. Your university. Your job. Your salary. Your family's wealth. Your relationship status. Even when nobody says it directly, you feel the expectations. In Denmark, I see people changing careers, studying again in their thirties, or choosing a slower / their own path without being judged. I still compare myself to others in Denmark, but much less than I used to in Korea. And I cannot deny that sometimes comparison motivates me to grow a lot. But overall, over time, I stopped measuring my life against someone else’s timeline. 3. I changed how I see convenience. At first, I found Denmark inconvenient. Shops close early, and there is no late-night delivery culture like in Korea, where you can order at 10 pm and receive it before 7 am the next morning. There is also not a 24/7 convenience store on every corner. I used to think that more convenience was always better. Then someone told me that it is nice to imagine your fellow citizens having a hyggelig evening with their families/friends. That perspective stayed with me. I still appreciate when things are fast and convenient, but I began to understand that convenience often comes at a cost, and that slower can sometimes mean more balanced.
