Those first easy miles? They’re your insurance policy for finishing strong. 💧 2. Fuel and hydrate early. Don’t wait until you’re tired to refuel. Sip every 15–20 minutes, take carbs every 45–60. Endurance is built on strategy, not stubbornness. 🧠 3. Train your mind like your legs. When it gets hard (and it will), focus on small wins, the next step, the next breath. Distance running is 80% mental, 20% everything else. 👟 4. Respect recovery. Stretch, sleep, refuel. You don’t grow during the run, you grow after it. 🌅 5. Remember your ‘why.’ When the pain hits, your purpose keeps you moving. That’s where the real strength lives. Hope these help! Monday - swim 300 swim 300 drill 3 x 100 descending times on 30 seconds rest 4 x 50 kick descending times 30 seconds rest 6 x 200 Pull and pads on 30 seconds rest 200 kick steady 200 easy swim Tuesday - Run 45 minutes easy Wednesday - Ride 15 minute warmup @ 140-210 watts 2 x 20 minutes @ 300 watts, sub 60 cadence 5 minute recovery @ 190 watts 5 minute cooldown @ 190 watts descending Thursday - Run Warmup 10 minutes easy 5 x 9 minutes @ tempo, 1 minute walk/jog recovery Friday - Ride | Run Ride 15 minute warmup @ 150-200 watts 3 x 40 minutes @ 240 watts 5 minute recovery @ 175 watts between efforts 5 minute cooldown @ 190 watts descending Run - 45 minute easy ROTB Was meant to be a swim here but a storm forced my local pool to shut. Saturday - Run | Swim Run - 2 hours. Running isn’t supposed to feel like an all-out effort every time. But the problem is, most people already have an idea of what they can “handle” and assume that running is supposed to be hard. That’s why most beginners never truly experience what easy running feels like. Here’s a simple guideline: 💡 Keep most of your runs at a 4-5/10 effort 💡 Use the conversational test: If you can’t talk in full sentences, slow down. Why does this work? ✅ It allows you to run more often & build mileage, which is key for improvement. ✅ It reduces excessive fatigue & the risk for overuse injuries, allowing you to stay consistent. ✅ It builds endurance—the foundation of all distance running (anything longer than 200m requires it). Now, if you want to set strong times, speed work still matters. But it should only make up ~20% of your training. 💡 80% easy running → builds endurance & aerobic capacity 💡 20% speed work (intervals, tempos) → improves race pace & efficiency This isn’t just a theory—it’s how every proficient distance runner trains.
