FIThe Brics bloc of developing nations likes to boast that it represents nearly half the world’s population, but its most recent annual summit in Brazil highlighted a drawback of its fast expansion: the complexity of reaching agreement.
The bloc — comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa until 2023 — has more than doubled in size, as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran and others swelled its ranks. Some new members have injected fresh divisions into the Brics, which was already struggling for coherence and split between democracies and autocracies.
Leaders focused their declaration on long-standing demands for reforms of global governance, including fairer geographical representation on the UN security council, the IMF and the World Bank to reflect the increased weight of emerging markets in the global economy. Yet mindful of the need to avoid provoking an unpredictable US president, the long Brics statement avoided mentioning the US anywhere by name.
However, many key leaders were absent. While Russian President Vladimir Putin was busy with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, heightened Middle East tensions also meant that the leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran did not come.
Additionally, China gave no explanation for President Xi Jinping’s absence, throwing a question mark over the event’s ability to make meaningful agreements.

Segundo a coordenadora de projetos estratégicos da Federação da Agricultura e Pecuária do Pará (Faepa) e presidente da Câmara Setorial do Cacau no Pará, Maria Goretti Gomes, embora o drawback seja uma legislação antiga e aplicada a diversas cadeias produtivas, o uso do instrumento no setor cacaueiro ocorre em um momento particularmente sensível. Após um ciclo de valorização que marcou 2024 e parte de 2025, o mercado passou a registrar forte retração nos preços, impactando diretamente os produtores paraenses.

Drawback is a great way to practice with some pressure, either play stroke play with a partner or set a score goal to beat if you’re by yourself.
This will also make you start thinking about where to miss. A lot of players think leaving a putt short or low is a “bad putt” but I would rather have a 3 footer straight up a hill from leaving it short than have a 4 footer down the hill. You may have gotten to the hole but your next one is in a much lower percentage spot.
