DEASML, the quiet Dutch giant based in Veldhoven, is the one company modern AI literally cannot exist without.
Since 1984 they have specialized in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography — the ultra-precise light machines that etch the microscopic circuits onto silicon wafers. Those circuits are the foundation of every advanced chip powering smartphones, laptops, data centers, AI accelerators and supercomputers.
No other company on Earth can manufacture these EUV systems at scale. TSMC, Samsung and Intel all depend completely on ASML to keep pushing the boundary of what semiconductor nodes can achieve. Remove ASML from the equation and the entire pipeline of next-generation computing — including the explosive growth of AI — grinds to a halt.
It’s a reminder that the most visible revolutions often rest on the least visible foundations. Behind every flashy AI headline stands a single choke point in a cleanroom in the Netherlands.
