☀️ HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE SUN ⚡️ | cr: @goinggreenmedia Share this video if you want to see more buildings taking inspiration from traditional design 🙌 This is Paral.lel, a housing complex situated atop a quiet mountain in Mallorca 🇪🇸, where residents can use the sun to maximise their energy efficiency! ⚡️ Each of the two buildings is wrapped in a “skin” of wooden shutters 🪵, that can be adjusted by residents to allow for the sun to naturally and directly heat their homes in winter ❄️ , as well as can filter out the sun in summertime 🌞. The buildings, designed by @ohlab_architecture, were modelled after traditional Mallorcan buildings, that use shutters (like many Mediterranean countries) to block out that sometimes unbearable summer heat. 🥵 This reduces the need for extra heating and cooling systems, and helps residents keep their energy bills low. 📉 The buildings are also fitted with rainwater collection systems, and solar panels to maximise the power of the Mallorcan sun. 💧 We believe that the ‘old’ ways are often the best ways, so we can’t wait to see more and more innovators continue to re-adopt the methods humans used to survive and thrive throughout history, while also integrating today’s technologies for a more fair, equitable, and sustainable future. 🙌 Comment 🤩 below if you want to see more architecture like this #gogreen #ecodesign #goinggreen #nature #sustainability #eco #sustainable #earth #architecture #sustainabledesign #design #sustainablearchitecture

Today - ironically #internationalewasteday - @microsoft is pushing up to 400 million working computers towards the scrap heap. Ending software support for #Windows10 means no more security updates, leaving users vulnerable to attacks and with no choice other than to buy a new device, at their own cost. This decision will create an estimated 700 million kg of e-waste, containing billions of dollars worth of precious metals, as well as tonnes of hazardous materials. And the burden of that waste will mainly be borne by people and ecosystems in the Global South.
