And one that becomes whole through Him. That first state didn’t want to choose. Didn’t want to risk. Didn’t want to embody. Didn’t want to fail, wrestle, repent, or grow. They wanted to be saved without participation. To return without experience. To arrive whole without becoming whole. No body. No opposition. No listening inward. Just certainty. And symbolically… this is where Satan and his “followers” finally make sense. Not as monsters — but as a state of consciousness that rejects agency itself. In LDS belief, Satan’s proposal removed choice. And his followers agreed. No risk. No embodiment. No real transformation. Just control disguised as righteousness. No risk. No relationship. There is a specific period in consciousness work that almost no one warns about clearly enough. The period where the awareness has expanded but the embodiment has not yet caught up. Where more of the inner life is visible than it was before, and the seeing is not yet accompanied by the ease the teaching suggested would follow. Carl Jung described the burden of consciousness plainly: until the unconscious is made conscious, it directs the life from beneath awareness. More recent positive psychology research confirmed a specific and initially uncomfortable finding. Increased self-awareness temporarily increases dissatisfaction with one’s conditions before it improves wellbeing. The integration gap has a measurable arc. A facilitator who leads extended consciousness programs described what she observed consistently at the midpoint of deep retreats: “People arrive expecting insight to feel like relief. In the middle of the process, insight feels like inventory. You can see what is there. You have not yet learned to hold it differently. That gap is real and it is not a mistake.” The pre-conscious life is often more comfortable than the early-conscious one. What could not be seen could not be experienced as requiring attention. Expanding awareness means encountering what was previously outside the perceptual field. The patterns. The conditioning. The distances between the inner and outer life that the pre-conscious state managed by not making them available. The integration gap is not a sign the work is failing. It is the work, described accurately. The discomfort is the correct experience for this specific phase. Not getting worse at this. Becoming capable of seeing more of what was always present.
