ALPseudobulbar affect is a neurological condition causing sudden uncontrollable laughter or crying. It results from brain damage or neurodegenerative diseases that disrupt emotional regulation.
In Eric’s instance he is “lucky” that his pseudobulbar affect only results in uncontrollable laughter usually when something funny happens. Sometimes if he’s laughing too hard we will have to pause what we are watching for him to catch his breath.
For some this condition can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. The expressions do not always match the situation either. Some may laugh uncontrollably at something sad, or have laughter that turns to tears.
