THWe mourn Kshamenk, the last orca held captive in Latin America. For more than three decades, he was confined at Mundo Marino oceanarium in San Clemente del Tuyú, Argentina.
A powerful, intelligent being reduced to a tourist attraction, forced to perform and exploited for profit in a tank that could never contain his true nature. Captured, isolated, stressed and used until his death. This was not a tragedy by chance, but the inevitable outcome of captivity.
His death leaves us with an undeniable responsibility: to end captivity and all forms of animal exploitation.
Pools are marine prisons.
Marine parks are not sanctuaries or rescue centers. They are businesses built on suffering.
They do not educate, protect, or save animals.
Please, boycott marine parks. #EndCaptivity

This little monkey, convulsing and experiencing incredibly intense pain, is called Tosya. 🐵 He WAS great entertainment for hundreds of people every day in one petting zoo.🎪 In the end, despite the fact that he brought a lot of money💰to his owner, he received a large number of fractures 🤕 (ribs, pelvis, a broken arm in several places), an open craniocerebral injury 🧠 (the brain was literally visible), 🤢 gastrointestinal disorders, hypocalcemia and much more. 💊 This is what this “service” gave him through the people who took him away from his mother and forced him to be something he shouldn’t be.🤹

And yes, we know that we rarely share such 😰 scary footage and graphic content, 👀 but this is the truth that can open the eyes of many people.🌎

We, as veterinarians 🩺 who have been saving animals 🐾 for many years, have seen something familiar almost every day and that is why we ask you to be more attentive to the animals around us 🤲🏼 (do not go to petting zoos, do not take pictures with animals for money, do not support circuses and many other things where involving animals and in which they clearly experience cruelty ⚠️). Because believe us, as professionals: not a single wild animal will be healthy or happy in such conditions! None of them! ❌

So let’s all work together to ensure that every animal on this planet can receive LOVE ❤️🩹 and, no less important, RESPECT.🌿

WEThis is Kshamenk—the last captive orca in South America. Kshamenk appears very thin with noticeable peanut head (visible depression behind an orca’s blowhole caused by extreme weight loss). After about 10 minutes of performing in the show for the public, Kshamenk is sent back to his holding tank where he spends most of his day laying motionlessly.
We observed him with his mouth open for at least 10 minutes waiting for more food in his shallow prison. His tank is only 6 meters wide and he is 5.8 meters long. It’s agonizing to watch Kshamenk’s visible decline along with the deteriorating conditions.

Expediente 4131-D-2023, known as #LeyKshamenk, is a proposed law in Argentina that seeks to ban the captivity, exhibition, and use of wild marine animals in entertainment across the country as well as require their relocation to sanctuaries within two years, and impose strict penalties for violations.
In October 2023, a judicial amparo was filed for Kshamenk in Argentina. It’s a fast-track legal remedy used to protect fundamental constitutional rights when they’re being violated or imminently threatened by arbitrary or illegal actions.

ORThis video was taken on June 26th above the Miami Seaquarium. You can see Tokitae/Lolita, their last surviving orca. She no longer performs and her tank is not only of an illegal size, but also in a very bad condition.
Tokitae has been in this tank since 1970 and hasn't seen another of her kind since 1980. This is not life. It's a prison sentence.

WETwo years ago, Kiska Canada’s last captive orca took her final breath.
Stolen from Iceland in 1979 at just three years old, she was sold to Marineland Canada, where she spent over 40 years in a barren concrete tank. She lost all five of her calves and endured over a decade in complete isolation.
For years, she swam in endless circles
until, at last, death granted her the freedom captivity never would.
