THThe FAM trip prep guide I wish I had at the start 👀
Before I went on my first familiarisation trip I didn’t have a clue what to expect. I knew as a marketer what I was going there to do, but the thought of networking, juggling content creation, figuring out how to maximise ROI, AND travelling somewhere totally new was daunting to say the least…
Whether you’re hoping to create better content, build stronger relationships with suppliers or peers, or just make the absolute most of your trip (after all, you’re ultimately there for more client recommendations), this list will ensure you have thought of EVERYTHING before you travel 👏🏼
Make sure you save this post to come back to!
• Get clear on your goals
• Practice your pitch/intro (be ready to say what you do and what makes your clients different from the average guest)
• Research the brand (I cannot stress this enough - who owns the property, any recent news, what other hotels they manage)
• Create a hotel shot list that goes beyond a room tour (when you’re sent the itinerary is the perfect time to do this)
• Create a packing list (everything from your smart casual, resort appropriate outfits to the battery pack and gimble you’ll need to snap gorgeous shots all day long)
• Save a folder of content inspo on IG (favourite the photos and reels that inspire you the most)
• Ask smart questions (what kind of guests are you looking to attract more of? are there any new initiatives I should be aware of? are you noticing shorter or longer booking windows this year?)
• Log your impressions in real time (notes app will be your bff. add photos and your thoughts under the each one)
• Plan your post-FAM workflow (how will you share this with clients? a dedicated newsletter? stories takeover? how will you follow-up with the hotel?)
• Bring business cards (even better if they’re digital)
• Check who else is going (connect early, calm your nerves)
• Review your client list (who would this destination/hotel be perfect for? make a note to shoot them a WhatsApp whilst there)
Which things in this list could you do with more help on? Let me know in the comments! 🫶🏼
Lots of love, Sophie x
