PEComment “wealth” below and I’ll DM you a link to our free live investing update and Q&A happening TONIGHT (free but seats are limited) as well as a link to our huge course sale that ends on Sunday!
I think there’s this misconception that simple investing in index funds is for beginners or for investors with lower net worths. But my net worth is over $5M these days and over $3M of that is sitting in my Fidelity account. If I had to make any critique of my investing strategy, I’d say it’s too COMPLEX. I have about 7 different positions but I think I’d be better off with ONE (a target date index fund like FIPFX) or three (a three-fund portfolio like VTI, VXUS, BNDW).
So this is what I actually do for my own investing! I put money in. I make sure not to have cash sitting there doing nothing, and I dump it all into the same few index funds that I own. That’s the quick/easy part. The wealth is built in the waiting. At the end of the video you can see I have over $483,000 of unrealized gains in that ONE ETF. That doesn’t even count all the dividends it has paid along the way. I have that much because I put in a lot about 9 years ago in 2015 and I let it SIT there.
One note that this is my investing strategy. Buy, never sell. That’s what makes the most money. My LIVING strategy is a little different. I DO sell and take money out trying to optimize the joy, happiness, and success of my life. I don’t want to let all this money sit there until I’m 80 at which point I can’t enjoy it. But I also don’t want to drain the entire account today, giving up my financial freedom. It’s a balance!
p.s. If you want a deeper dive on this stuff, check out our course sale! It ends on Sunday. Our two courses have an average review of 4.96/5 stars with over 600 reviews. They’re real life changers! Pick them up for $69 each of $119 for both just through Friday.
As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.
