MA5 things I had to learn the hard way as a female filmmaker.
1. Don’t let a male-dominated industry kill your spark — because at times, it almost did for me.
2. You don’t need permission to take yourself seriously. That decision has to come from you first.
3. Feeling behind usually just means you’re doing something uncomfortable (and that’s where growth lives).
4. Being talented isn’t enough if you don’t advocate for yourself confidence changes how your work is received.
5. Overthinking will slow you down more than imperfect action ever will.
None of this came easy. Every edit, rejection, and moment of doubt shaped the filmmaker I am now.
If you’re in the thick of it, this is your reminder: you’re not failing you’re becoming.
