GIThis is one of the many reasons that after sitting back and consuming personal finance content for years I’m now creating content of my own to voice the issues that affect First Gen and BIPOC.
I’m grateful for what I’ve learned from the broader personal finance community, but a lot of the big talking heads reek of YT privilege.
The finance bros- I’m all too familiar with them from my investment management career.
The YT girl bosses- well let’s just say this is why I’m not a fan of the book Lean In and instead recommend all my followers to read @mindaharts The Memo.

ACMy heart is full. ❤️ Those of you who have read First Gen know that the book opens with my experience in 2016 at a college graduation. Watching the students and hoping that the picture I was painting of the future could be more nuanced, complete…honest. Out of respect. For who they were, for what they had been though, and for where they were going. To hear those same thoughts - that eventually became my book - read out loud from the podium at the Dallas College Commencement by Student Speaker Aranza Ortega Vargas, is a testament to anyone who has ever felt isolated or alone in their struggle. As Aranza so wisely said, know that you are right where you belong.

I am beyond proud of her and of all she’s been able to accomplish. Our mother was a nurse in Mexico and now her baby is becoming a nurse in the U.S.
