MAI’m grateful to see that for the first time in 12 years the U.S. bishops issued a Special Message addressing their concern for the evolving situation impacting immigrants in the United States. They came together to call for compassion over cruelty, faith over fear. It’s powerful to see them unite with a clear message, that no human is less than. That we all deserve dignity. Thank you for standing up for those who feel voiceless and uniting with such clarity. May we be reminded that we have a voice, as well as a responsibility to advocate for those who may not be able to speak up for themselves.

SAToday seems like a good time to reflect on this famous poem about the Holocaust.
Because bad things often happen not simply because bad people do them - but because good people, in the words of MLK - are appallingly silent.
Today I feel thankful for the people in Minneapolis who are standing up to say “this is not OK.”
And my heart grieves for Renee Good’s family - because she died because she refused to be one of the appallingly silent good people.
