NANaples, Florida is known for its beautiful waterfront views, palm lined landscapes, and outdoor ceremonies that take advantage of Southwest Florida’s warm climate and scenic waterways. Many weddings and events take place along docks, lakes, and canals that create a perfect backdrop for photos and celebrations. But throughout Florida those same waterways are also natural habitat for American alligators that have lived in this region for thousands of years. Alligators are common in freshwater canals, lakes, ponds, and wetlands across the state and often move quietly through the water without being noticed. Most of the time they remain beneath the surface where people never see them, but occasionally nature makes an unexpected appearance in places where people least expect it. Moments like this are a reminder that in Florida the line between beautiful waterfront scenery and wild ecosystems can be incredibly thin. It’s one of the reasons life in places like Naples is so unique, where modern coastal living and the natural environment still exist side by side.
