SHThe Qajar dynasty, a Turkic-origin royal family based in Iran, managed to stay in power for nearly 130 years.
However, the widely circulated photo of the so-called “Qajar princess” showing a person in feminine attire is not actually a woman. At that time, it was forbidden to photograph women from the royal harem, so the Shah had male theater actors pose as women for staged photos.
According to historical accounts, the real Iranian princess was in fact very beautiful and admired as a role model by many women in her country.
She was also known for advocating gender equality and played an important role in promoting women’s freedom in Iran.
