KSA little behind-the-scenes from a recent project 👀👇
We 3D printed custom molds on our Formlabs Form 4, then cast the final parts using a 2-part silicone. Before pouring, we ran the silicone through a vacuum chamber to eliminate air bubbles and get a clean, consistent finish.
We initially tested printing the parts directly in flexible/silicone materials, but ran into a few limitations:
• Some walls were too thin to print reliably
• Support marks affected both function and appearance
Printing the molds instead gave us smoother surfaces and much more repeatable results.
Sometimes the smartest way to 3D print a part…is to not print the part, but print the tool to make the part.🧠
