ERI’m done hiding it. It’s something I can’t control so I’m being raw and making this post. I just self discharged after spending 33 days admitted in hospital and been in and out of hospital for a while before that.
As some of you are aware, I have been showing symptoms of ‘extreme anxiety’ (doctors words) for years now. I’ve had test after test and they all came back clear. Heart monitor, constant observations taken, 24 hour eeg, results all clear. The seizures. The fainting episodes. The tremors and temporary paralysis. The fatigue. Sickness after sickness.
‘It’s not epilepsy’ those words are a blessing but als a curse. I’m glad, knowing that my seizures are ‘safe’ and don’t damage my brain (seudo/functional pnes seizures).
However it means it can’t be controlled by medication.
It’s chronic, there is no cure. Therapy relieves some symptoms, but it’s something that changes seriousness based on external factors such as stress, anxiety, hyperactivity etc which all come with my diagnosis of autism (awaiting an adhd diagnosis).
FND (functional neurological disorder) can stroke at any time and ruin your life completely.
I’m sharing this post to raise awareness of what I have been going through on a daily basis.
I’m truly thankful for all of the people who have stuck by my side and supported me throughout my diagnosis. I’ve met some truly incredible people and I’ll forever be in debt to them.

DRFunctional neurologic disorder is a real condition where psychological factors disrupt how the brain controls the body. Scans are often normal, which leads people to wrongly assume symptoms are fake. Neurologists can tell the difference. FND doesn’t follow normal neurologic patterns, and the symptoms aren’t something a person can consciously create or stop. #functionalneurologicaldisorder #anxiety #psychosomatic #psychological

These are the things that I wish everyone knew about FND! 🧠✨
First: FND is REAL, not made up or a result of faking or malingering. Believe your patients!
Second: FND is a brain connection issue (think neuroplasticity gone awry) and can get better! 🙌 With targeted rehab based on a framework of understanding of what underlies the symptoms (not just chasing symptoms), people get better.
Third: Clinicians, you don’t have to get stuck feeling lost on your journey! 🗺️ We get it - it can be frustrating to feel like you’re throwing treatment ideas at the wall, hoping something will stick. 🤷♀️

‘I had no recollection of who I was, where I was... I started to have hallucinations, seeing and hearing voices and seeing people.’ After bumping her head while bringing in the laundry, Felicity felt ill and her boyfriend knew something was seriously wrong. Doctors initially wrote off her symptoms as post-concussion syndrome and told the couple they would go away, but Felicity's condition worsened severely over time. REThat’s the face of relief.
Ran into some migraine recently. Could be any number of reasons. Was able to hold off any #functionalneurologicaldisorder episodes (thankfully), but still felt my nervous system need extra recovery method.
Booked a contrast session with @victoryfloatlounge and did the dry sauna/cold tub circuit — and wow did it make a difference. Postdrome from migraine is gone, and it’s like I hit a reset for nervous system.
Highly recommend this place.

AP8 weeks ago @lispaige9210 was learning to stand again, relearning how to lift her legs and taking her first unaided steps in 4 years since her Functional Neurological Disorder diagnosis (watch until the end to see just how far she’s come). She had been told there was nothing that could be done for her.
Today she climbed uneven, steep stone steps, did a full leg training day in the gym (including navigating between machines) AND walked back to the car at the end of the session.
This girl is now going to WALK down the aisle and will be able to hold cutlery to eat her wedding meal without help 👰🏻♀️ She’s also about to start University!
This is what we do this for - to give people life back.
It’s hard to describe the changes we are seeing week to week as she continues to take on new challenges. We are so incredibly proud!
