The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route is one of the longest off-road bikepacking routes in the world, running all the way from Banff in the Canadian Rockies, down to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, by the Mexican border. It’s a route I’ve been dreaming about for years, since first being inspired by the late great @iohangue and his videos of cycling the GDMBR in winter. A couple Adventure Cycling staffers were lucky enough to meet up with @laelwilcox in Whitefish, Montana, on her way to the start of her sixth time on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route race. She's not only competing in the Tour Divide, but she's been riding from her home in Tucson using the Sierra Cascades, Lewis & Clark, and Great Parks Routes to get most of the way. We asked her what brings her back to the GDMBR over and over. "Life is so good out there. It's beautiful views and great camping. You just get into this rhythm of being on the road and seeing the country in a way that's special in the mountains. It's the one route that I'm like 'Everybody in the world should ride this!'" Here’s your dreamy moment of zen for today. These are my favorite drone clips from a little bicycle adventure on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. I rode from the border of Canada to the border of New Mexico in July 2020, then came back and rode the final 700 miles in New Mexico in May 2021. I was on my trusty 600x, an adventure bike that I designed with my friends at @ridepriority Thank you @adventurecycling for creating this monumental route back in 1997. #gdmbr #bikepacking #GetOutThere

The adventure begins! And we’re just so stinking happy. We discussed endlessly where we should go?? Canada, Scandanavia, or the dream Kyrgyzstan, but that seemed scary and logistically very involved with two little kids. On our last trip, the GDMBR I was pregnant with Julian, and Adie was riding in the @toutterrain singletrailer. We’ve been dreaming of Kyrgyzstan but worried that the terrain would just be too much for Adie riding her own bike, that it would be so challenging that it wouldn’t be fun and our entire goal is to have fun biking as a family. The sensible thing to do over the last two years when Julian was a baby and Adie was biking on her own would have been to go on overnighters and progressively more challenging routes so she could get her bike legs. But we live on a boat in a pancake flat place with very few off-roads, so it wasn’t possible. In the end we decided to not fear our fears but go for what we love; to follow our dream. We have one life and how fortunate we are to be able to live the life we want to. For the family bikepacking curious here’s some additional information about how the kids ride. The singletrailer was a given, this exceptional trailer by toute terrain has supported our riding with Adie for over 10,000km, Julian would love it too. Adie had various Thule seats on our bikes where we could chat but they’re so heavy they wouldn’t be coming with us, instead we’re testing a Mac Ride. Adie is riding a @trailcraftcycles and it is so sweet, so light (16.5lbs the way we set it up), has better components than my bike, really, and we have a tow rope for the climbs. We debated bringing two trailers to give Adie a break when it was too hard, but in the end, she’s the most resilient person I know and wanted to do this ride on her own so we just had to trust that she would improve quickly and could do it. And it’s true, for all of us, if you want to and you trust yourself you can do almost anything.

To tu pierwszy raz musiałam zaplanować nocleg, ilość zabranej wody, a także uchronić miejsce spania przed niedźwiedziami. Currently putting this reel together on the side of the road. Haven’t had any service since leaving silver city. Met a group of renegades heading Northbound yesterday! I was super grateful to return to the route with such a cool group of people. We shared camp at mile 163 last night. The next 90 miles are some of the most remote on the route so I will check back in when I can! Thank you guys for the support it definitely helps me to continue this journey! #gdmbr #biketravel #newmexicolife
