AUI know my hair wasn’t WAVY before, but it certainly had more texture than it does now. It was not my intention to change my hair texture…with repeated practice of this routine, it just happened.
Also, before, when I would go to the salon and get a proper wash + blow dry, yes my hair would look sleek like this. But then, I’d wash it next & let it air dry, and it would go back to looking like the before picture I showed you in this video. The difference now is that when I air dry my hair, even WITHOUT post wash products, it dries straight & frizz free.
I think the repeated use of silicones helps to maintain completely sealed cuticles, which is why I’m experiencing this “texture shift”.

➰ Your curl pattern doesn’t matter as much as you think (esp. when it comes to choosing products.)
➰ Try your products several times and in several ways before you cut them out. Even then, hang on to them and try again in a few months. As your hair gets healthier, it’s needs may change.
➰ That said, keep your eyes on those expiration dates 👀
➰ Practice your application technique (I did this and this alone for the first 9 months of my healthy hair journey. Game 👏🏼Changer👏🏼!) which brings me to my next point...
➰ You don’t need ALL the products!
➰ Listen to YOUR hair, not just what everyone else is doing.
➰ Ingredients are listed in order of concentration (99% of the time, at least. There are some stragglers that list alphabetically.) Take a peak at the first 5-6 ingredients to get a sense of what your product is really about...not just what the product is marketing to you.
➰ One method is not a one size fits all.
➰ Try your best not to compare your journey to someone else’s. Our hairs have their own unique finger print of chemical, thermal and mechanical damage. It’s impossible to put an exact time stamp on how long it will take to bounce back.
➰ If you’re seeking permission to blow out your hair from time to time, here it is, fam 🙋🏻♀️ Just promise me you’ll use some form of heat protection.
➰ Lastly, DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! And show yourself grace along the way.

CHIf your waves keep falling flat, your products might be part of the problem.
A lot of wavy girls are told to use curl cream…but many curl creams are actually too heavy for wavy hair.
When waves get weighed down, they lose their shape, and that’s when they start falling flat.
This doesn’t mean curl cream is bad. It just means wavy hair needs lighter products with hold to keep waves defined longer.

SThair advice I actually disagree with as a wavy hair girl…
• “treat your hair like it’s curly”
my waves get weighed down way too easily… it’s not the same
• “the more product the better”
too much = flat, greasy waves every time
• “use heavy oils for moisture”
lightweight always works better for me
• “never brush your hair”
being gentle > avoiding it completely
• “you don’t need to clarify often”
buildup shows up FAST on wavy hair
• “skip trims if you want length”
my waves look worse when my ends aren’t clean
• “it’s all about products”
my hair changed more when I focused on overall health too
