“Daredevil Scales Skyscraper, Leaves L.A. Breathless.”
In a feat that defies logic, gravity, and modern security systems, the graffiti writer known simply as HOPES has pulled off what may be one of the most daring acts of criminal art in Los Angeles. Sometime in the dead of night, the roller king infiltrated a towering high rise, over 50 stories tall, hauling gallons of paint and equipment past locked entrances, surveillance systems, and what should’ve been airtight security. How the vandal got in is still a mystery, but once inside, the mission was far from over.
After making it undetected to the rooftop, HOPES faced painting the outer wall of the skyscraper, thousands of feet above the streets below with only a roller and raw nerve in hand. Suspended high in the sky, the writer painted his name in massive block letters right beside the building’s logo, turning the structure into a billboard for his moniker. The positioning was no accident. Together, the graffiti and existing signage now read “Bank of HOPES” a bold, ironic fusion of commerce and criminal art, perfectly visible from the ground below.
The visuals are as breathtaking as the act itself. Video clips and photographs from stunned pedestrians show the tag gleaming against the sky, towering above Wilshire blvd like a message from the clouds. Witnesses have described the artwork as “so high it makes you dizzy,” and the risk it must’ve taken as “pure insanity.” The vandal had no safety rig, no net, no backup, just an unrelenting drive to leave a mark that no one could ignore.
And then, just as silently as he came, HOPES vanished. No footage has emerged of his exit. No alarms were triggered. Like a phantom with a paint roller, he slipped back into the shadows, leaving behind only questions and one of the most jaw dropping graffiti placements Los Angeles has ever seen. It wasn’t just another spot under his belt. It was a high wire performance, a mission impossible.
