CRIf you've ever canceled plans because of HS and felt like the worst friend ever, this is for you. 💜
I spent years thinking I was just unreliable, flaky, a bad friend. Turns out my body was in crisis, and I was too ashamed to explain it.
1. Canceling plans at the last minute (I wasn't being flaky, I was hiding active flares)
2. Avoiding tight clothes or certain outfits (I wasn't being high maintenance, I was preventing friction on inflamed skin)
3. Turning down beach trips or pool parties (I wasn't antisocial, I was protecting myself from exposure and judgment)
4. Always saying "I'm sick" instead of explaining (I wasn't lying, I was avoiding the shame of explaining HS)
5. Isolating myself for days at a time (I wasn't being distant, I was managing pain and inflammation)
6. Being particular about where I sat or how I moved (I wasn't being difficult, I was trying to avoid pressure on painful areas)
Here's what nobody tells you: HS doesn't just affect your skin, it affects your relationships and how you show up in the world. 😤
The isolation I felt for years wasn't because I was a bad person; it was because I was dealing with something invisible to everyone else.

HSHS or Folliculitis? Believe it or not, HS is commonly misdiagnosed as folliculitis! This typically causes a delay in treatment and HS can continue to worsen while waiting for a proper diagnosis.
