EAThe Holy Fire has emerged from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, as thousands of Christians inside the church proclaim: “Christ is risen!” Candles are being lit and the light of the Resurrection is spreading across Jerusalem and the East.
On Holy Saturday, thousands of Christians gather inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem for one of the most powerful and joyful moments of the year: the Holy Fire. From the tomb of Jesus Christ, the light emerges, filling the church with hope, tears, prayer, and celebration. As the Patriarch comes out carrying the flame, the bells ring, candles are lifted high, and the whole church cries out: “Christ is risen!” The Holy Fire is then passed from person to person until the entire church shines with light, before being carried across the East to churches, villages, and homes, announcing the Resurrection of Christ to the world.
