MEWhat Japan is like during Cherry Blossom Season and my honest perspective. Make sure to follow @megsandpat for useful travel tips!
We really wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, but so did everyone else! Unless you were getting up really early, the main tourist spots were incredibly busy. We were not always able to get to places early so we were just patient and used our angles, but Japan was actually intense for crowds. I think if I were to go back it would definitely be in the lowest season in winter or to areas that were not as travelled.
Honestly, I was so excited for Japan, but the mass tourism ruined it for me a bit. I knew it would be busy, but I didn’t know it would be this busy. I can’t even explain how busy it was, as we travel a lot and we know what is normal. We barely saw any Japanese people in Kyoto, which is a bit strange.
Even with planning, everything was sold out months in advance during this time and hotels were like triple the cost of normal. If I were to give advice, I would say to skip cherry blossom season in Japan but that is very controversial.
Even with this, I still loved Japan and I am glad we went. Getting off the tourist path of Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo is the key to peaceful Japan!
Do you mind going to places that are crowded or do you avoid it at all costs?
