But everything changed. You gave up pieces of yourself you didn’t even announce. You learned how to hold someone else’s pain while quietly carrying your own. You became a nurse, an advocate, a scheduler, an emotional anchor. Without a title, without a paycheck, and most days, without a thank you. And still… you showed up. Can I just say something that someone should have said to you a long time ago? What you are doing matters. Who you are matters. Your exhaustion is valid. Your grief is real. Your sacrifice has not gone unseen, even when it feels like it has. Caregiving is one of the purest forms of love that exists. But love was never meant to pour without being replenished. You cannot keep emptying yourself for everyone else and expect to have anything left. So today, I’m speaking directly to the caregiver who is running on fumes. The one who cries in the car because that’s the only private space they have. The one who Googles symptoms at 2am and holds it together by a thread in the morning. The one who feels guilty for even wanting a break. You are not forgotten. You are seen. And you deserve care too If this is you, or if you love someone who is carrying this quietly, send this their way. Let’s remind each other that caregivers deserve to be celebrated, checked on, and supported.
