TIA tiny life. A huge story.
Meet Punch-kun, a baby Japanese macaque from Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan.
He was born in July 2025… and abandoned by his mother shortly after birth. A heartbreaking situation that sometimes happens with first-time or stressed mothers in captivity.
After being cared for by zookeepers, Punch was introduced to the monkey group in January 2026. But he struggled. He didn’t understand social signals, felt anxious, and couldn’t fit in with the others.
So the keepers gave him something simple… a large plush orangutan toy.
And something beautiful happened.
Punch bonded with the toy like it was his mother.
He dragged it everywhere.
Slept with it.
Held it whenever he felt scared.
People online started calling it “Oran Mama.”
In February 2026, photos of the tiny monkey clinging to his toy touched millions of hearts and went viral worldwide, bringing huge crowds to the zoo.
The best part?
Recent updates show hope.
Punch is slowly learning social skills, playing with other young monkeys, and was even groomed by an adult macaque — a powerful sign that he’s finally being accepted.
Sometimes love doesn’t come the way we expect…
but it still finds us.
