Jet lag isn’t a sleep problem —> it’s a circadian rhythm problem *** Read below 👇🏼 What actually helps (from a holistic Functional Medicine lens): 1. Hydration: Hydration is KEY, especially with electrolytes. Start hydrating and replenishing electrolytes a day before your flight until you land. 2. Movement: A big reason we get jet lag is sitting still for so many hours. Best movement is a form of stretching before the flight. And getting up the walk around/stretch every hour or so (unless you are asleep :)). I will fully be the girl in the back doing a yoga flow. 3. Light timing: trick the brain with light exposure during the day and darkness during the night (of the knew location) 4. Supplements: *not musts but supportive* zinc will help keep your immune system healthy, magnesium supports relaxation and sleep quality, and low-dose melatonin (only recommend first night if needed) for circadian rhythm 5. Adequate protein: Helps with total body rehydration and neurotransmitters needed for quality sleep! (Tryptophan, serotonin). How I beat jet lag in a day EVERY SINGLE time: - Literally immediately act as though I am aligned with the timing of day of the place I landed in. Don’t look at the other clock. The myth about jet lag that you need to know. A lot of people think they can beat jet lag by simply staying awake until its nighttime in their destination. While this might help people temporarily, the true effects of jet lag often last between 3-6 weeks. Changing our circadian rythym, even slightly, is extremely stressful for the body. For me it takes me a month, minimum, to get back to feeling normal. #travel #jetlag #health
