Instead, his foreign policy focused more on diplomacy, human rights, and peace agreements. 1980, my sophomore year at @westernmichu The Iran Hostage Crisis is going on and the U.S, boycotts the Olympics. These are two of the reasons Ronald Reagan defeats Jimmy Carter in a landslide. A major race riot erupted in Liberty City, Fla., after white police officers were acquitted in the murder of an unarmed Black man. Crack is becoming rampant in Urban areas. Former Beatle, John Lennon is shot and killed and ironically everyone is asking “Who Shot J.R.?” after the famous cliffhanger, on the hugely popular TV drama Dallas. BET is founded and Stevie Wonder is bringing reggae to the masses in America with “Master Blaster”. The song, a tribute to the great Bob Marley, became that year’s longest running number one on the R&B chart, holding the spot for seven straight weeks. This is me, chilling in my dorm room.
