CAThis is a Kolan, a woven band used to carry babies and young children in many parts of rural Türkiye (Turkey's new name).

Everything I know about it, I've learnt from my husband's grandmother, my children's great grandmother! She's 80 and very fit ❤️ She carried her first child (my mother-in-law) in a Kolan until they moved to the city.
It's normally worn by wrapping baby in a blanket, positioning the band over the blanket, taking the ends of the band around the shoulders, over baby's legs and tied in front (like a strap carry with a woven wrap).
it has been incredibly difficult to find information about this babywearing technique online, especially since my Turkish is unfortunately very limited. And virtually no images, just a few Instagram posts and excerpts from TV recordings.
