I’m a 3.9 GPA Mechatronics Engineering student and most people make this degree way harder than it needs to be. Here are the 5 biggest wake-up calls I’ve had: save this and follow for more❤️ 1. It’s not all “Porsches and Mansions”💸 The “rich engineer” trope is a lie. You aren’t getting mansions and Ferraris fresh out of school. You’re getting a high-floor, stable, upper-middle-class life in the suburbs. It’s a great life, but if you’re here for “overnight wealth,” you’re in the wrong building. 2. Your “struggle” is a choice😓 Stop romanticizing how hard your classes are. The more you tell everyone “this is so hard,” the more you’re just pre-gaming your own failure. Complaining is just a cope for mediocrity. Other people mastered this material; you can too. Change your internal dialogue, and watch how much easier things get. 3. If you’re weak, you’re losing💪 You cannot build a high-performance brain on a low-performance body. Too many engineers look like they haven’t seen a gym in years. Don’t be that guy. If you aren’t pushing for a new PR in the gym, you aren’t reaching your peak cognitive performance in your classes. Physical discipline is the foundation of academic discipline. 4. All-nighters are for amateurs😴 Pulling an all-nighter isn’t a “grind”, it’s a failure of systems. It’s the least efficient way to work and it trains your brain to accept procrastination as a lifestyle. If you can’t manage a 24-hour day, you aren’t ready to manage a complex engineering project. Kill the cycle. 5. The “Golden Ticket” Degree👑 Just because you study Engineering doesn’t mean you have to be an Engineer. This is the most employable degree across all disciplines. Companies don’t just hire you for what you know; they hire you for the way you think. You’re taught how to solve complex problems and this is applicable to any field. Engineering is the ultimate foundation for any elite career path.

1. You don’t actually learn what electrical engineers do. If you’re worried that you didn’t retain everything and it’s going to affect you on the job, you can stop worrying now. That’s normal. 80% of what we learn in school won’t be used on the job, and good companies will have training ready for you. 2. Electrical engineers do completely different things based on the industry they land in. Electrical engineer is such a broad description of a job. One electrical engineer may be designing semiconductors, while another is designing the electrical gear that uses the chip, and another is designing the building that uses the electrical gear, and another is designing the grid that… you get the idea. All EEs have completely different skill sets and wouldn’t be able to do each other’s jobs without lots of training. 3. Most of the jobs are not in electronics. Electrical engineering jobs double the amount of electronics jobs in the U.S. Many degrees lump together electrical, computer, and electronics into one program, and most tend to lean heavy on the computer or electronics side. A lot of students take multiple microcontroller classes and then graduate to realize most opportunities are in fields like MEP…and they’d never even heard of it before. 👉 I’m a PE who teaches the real-world side of electrical engineering.
