Multiple sclerosis doesn’t follow the same path in every patient. Some people experience sudden neurological attacks followed by recovery. Others slowly accumulate disability over time. And some develop symptoms that steadily progress from the very beginning. These different patterns are how we classify MS disease courses: • Relapsing-Remitting MS (RRMS) • Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS) • Primary Progressive MS (PPMS) Understanding the disease course is important because it helps guide treatment decisions, monitoring, and prognosis. MS is not one uniform disease — it behaves differently in every brain and spinal cord. That’s why individualized care matters. — Dr. Shivani Naik #neurology #multiplesclerosis #mswarrior #immunology #residents

With symptoms that come and go. For someone with MS, some days may feel “off” for no clear reason🥴 What many don’t realize is that multiple sclerosis affects how messages travel inside the body, how signals move, pause, or struggle to get through. And that understanding changes the conversation. That’s why regenerative medicine is exploring stem cells🧬 and how they may support nerve communication, inflammation balance, and long-term neurological health. Multiple sclerosis impacts more than the nervous system. It impacts daily life. Dr. Ward explains why MS care should focus on treating the whole person, not just the disease. At the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, care plans are personalized to support neurological health, symptom management, and quality of life. Because effective MS care looks at the full picture. #MultipleSclerosis #RNI

🧡 What MS Means for Me — In My Own Words I live with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is when my body mistakenly attacks the protective covering around my nerves. That protective covering is called myelin — and it’s what helps messages travel from my brain to the rest of my body. When that covering gets damaged, my brain and body don’t always communicate the way they should. Some days I look perfectly fine. Some days my body feels heavy. Some days fatigue wraps around me like a weighted blanket I didn’t ask for. Some days it’s brain fog. Some days it’s pain. And some days, it’s strength I didn’t even know I had. ⸻ 🧠 In Simple Terms? MS means my body fights against itself — but I fight back with knowledge, faith, holistic healing, and love. It means I have to be intentional about: • My rest • My stress • My food • My mindset • My environment It means I don’t take good days for granted. ⸻ 🧡 Why I Speak About It March isn’t just my birthday month. It’s also Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month. And as Mama CoCo the Holistic Scientist, I don’t just live with MS — I study my body. I listen to it. I nurture it. I heal from within with love. MS is part of my story… but it is not the headline. My headline is resilience. My headline is motherhood. My headline is purpose. My headline is showing my children — especially my #1 supporter — that even when life rewrites your plans, you still get to author your healing journey.

Let’s talk about the different types of multiple sclerosis. 🧡 MS is currently divided into 4 different types, or disease courses, as defined by the International Advisory Committee on Clinical Trials of MS in 2013. The four types are: 1. CIS - Clinically Isolated Syndrome 2. RRMS - Remitting Relapsing MS 3. SPMS - secondary Progressive MS; and 4. PPMS - Primary Progressive MS. RIS - Radiologically Isolated Syndrome is not considered a course of MS, but it is part of the MS continuum. Right now, MS specialists are working to change how MS is classified because they’re learning that MS is one continuous disease process, and they want to create course descriptions that are more biologically based. 🧡 In the next few days, I’m going to discuss each of the current 4 types. #multiplesclerosisawareness #msawareness #multiplesclerosis #multiplesclerosiswarrior #thisisms

MS Australia’s 2026 Major Grants Round is funding a diverse range of MS research across Australia, advancing our mission to prevent, find better treatments, and ultimately cure MS. Researchers Dr Hamish King, Associate Professor Anna Hatton and Professor Kaylene Young discuss their research projects focused on addressing long standing gaps in MS genetics, supporting mobility and independence and identifying drug targets that protect myelin respectively. 🔗 Learn more about the latest MS Australia funded research projects through the link in our bio.
