TEAlways a great reminder that spf in your makeup is likely NOT cutting it for full sun ☀️ protection, simply because you’re not using enough of the product.
How much is enough?
Sunscreens are tested at an application of 2 mg/cm2 but studies show consumers usually use anywhere from 0.5 to 1.0 mg/cm2. That’s less than half of what’s needed!
You ideally need ✌🏻 finger lengths from palmar crease to fingertip (calculated by the rule of 9’s used for burns) or quarter to half teaspoon for face and neck. But that’s not exactly a perfect method either because how runny or thick are the strips of sunscreen you’re squeezing on your fingers?
Since we’re not all using measuring spoons daily 🤣: If in doubt, apply a generous amount to your 2 fingers, apply in layers, apply frequently (every 2 hours), and if you hate reapplying, use an awesome hat or sun parasol!
