CLSome work this week on the chonker lay-flat hinges from a while back. When I originally made them I thought it would be cool if they had fancy rounded corners- like, I don’t know, kind of a Deco thing maybe? There was (and is) a ton of other round-adjacent stuff on the table, so, like so many bad ideas, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Big mistake! What I thought would be a cool little detail just ended up making the whole assembly look like cheapo bathroom door hinges. Not ideal. Worse, the little roundy-loo corners actually made the hinges a million times harder to install really sweetly, since there is no way to dial in the fit.
So: mill off the roundy corners, braze on some scrap chonks, re-surface everything, and presto! Fancy square corner like I should have had (and did!) in the first place. I think they cleaned up pretty good! I still stink at brazing, but I think I am maybe getting a little bit better at it, which is something. Onward!✨
