🔥 Understanding Burnout vs Stress Burnout and stress are often used interchangeably, but they are distinct experiences with different causes and consequences. Stress typically arises when immediate demands — such as workload or pressure — exceed a person’s capacity to cope. Once those demands reduce and recovery time is available, people can usually return to their normal level of functioning. Featuring Sanjay Popat, this Reel explains how burnout develops when high demands are sustained over long periods without adequate recovery. Dr Popat outlines three core dimensions of burnout: emotional exhaustion, where individuals feel drained and overwhelmed by work demands; depersonalisation, where people begin to detach or develop cynical attitudes toward their work, colleagues, or clients; and reduced personal accomplishment, where individuals feel ineffective and begin to question their competence.
