DI1982 : MISSING PERSONS - Destination Unknown
Missing Persons were formed in Los Angeles by
former Frank Zappa associates Terry Bozzio (drummer), Dale Bozzio (vocalist) and Warren Cuccurullo (guitarist).
The band seemed tailor-made for MTV with their heavy emphasis on image, and the group enjoyed a sizeable hit right off the bat with their gold-certified debut album Spring Session M and hit videos/singles "Words" and "Destination Unknown".
Dale Bozzio designed all her stage costumes with friend Doug Powell on the floor of her living room because the band had no money, they had to turn concert tickets into things they needed like drum supplies, studio time, or lunch. She dressed in provocative performance outfits assembled with parts from local hardware and aquatic stores, literally creating futuristic looks from plumbing supplies and fish tank parts.
Dale began modeling during the '70s, including appearing in Hustler Magazine, before being introduced to Frank Zappa, who invited her to sing on his epic concept album Joe's Garage. She first met Zappa when she climbed a 3-story fire escape through a bathroom window at a music venue he was playing in Massachusetts.
Terry Bozzio went on to become one of rock's greatest drummers. In 1978 he had formed Group 87 with Pat O'Hearn. In 1979 he had joined U.K. replacing Bill Bruford.
