His eldest brother, Sombhai Modi, is a retired health officer who now runs an old age home in Ahmedabad. Since Modi became Prime Minister, the two brothers mostly communicate over the phone.
His second brother, Amrutbhai Modi, is a retired fitter who lives with his son, Sanjay, earning a modest salary of ₹10,000 per month. He leads a quiet life but still hopes to meet his Prime Minister brother someday.
The third brother, Prahladbhai Modi, owns a grocery shop and also serves as the president of the Gujarat Fair Price Owners’ Association. Interestingly, he has openly criticized some of Narendra Modi’s policies despite their relationship.
The youngest brother, Pankaj Modi, works as a clerk in Gujarat’s Information Department. Unlike his other brothers, he gets the opportunity to meet Modi occasionally because their mother, Heeraben Modi, lived with him.
