The island had been devastated by a volcanic eruption, and this night turned grief into something powerful, communal alive.
Originally released in 1985 by Dire Straits, Money for Nothing became one of the defining tracks of the MTV era. What makes it timeless is that unmistakable guitar tone, achieved through a happy accident of mic placement and compression, creating one of the most recognizable riffs in rock history.
