ALJapan has proposed an ambitious idea called the Luna Ring—a giant belt of solar panels built around the Moon to produce clean energy for Earth . The concept was developed by Shimizu Corporation, and the ring would stretch about 11,000 km along the Moon’s equator, where sunlight is almost constant because there are no clouds or atmosphere.
The system would collect solar energy on the Moon, convert it into electricity, and then send that power back to Earth wirelessly using microwave or laser beams. Special receiving stations on Earth, called rectennas, would capture the energy and convert it back into usable electricity, providing a continuous power supply.
Robots would likely build the structure using materials found on the Moon, reducing the need to transport resources from Earth. If ever completed, the Luna Ring could generate around 13,000 terawatts of power, far more than the world currently needs. However, the idea remains futuristic for now because of huge costs, advanced engineering requirements, and the challenges of building such a massive project in space.
