What’s happening inside your foot: The plantar fascia is a thick connective tissue band running from heel to toes. It supports the foot arch and absorbs load during walking. During sleep: • The ankle stays in a relaxed downward position • The fascia shortens slightly • Blood flow and tissue hydration reduce On your first step: • The shortened fascia is suddenly stretched • Microscopic collagen fiber strain occurs • Pain appears at the heel attachment This explains why: Morning pain is worst and improves after a few minutes of walking.
