JAHere at the largest Musical Instrument Museum in the world @mimphx , I was extremely privileged to try out so many historical flutes ahead of their flute exhibition The Magical Flute during the 2025-2026 season. Here is one of them, a carbon-fiber flute! Tell me what you guys think!
More info about the flute:
Helsinki, Finland, c. 1999
Carbon fiber, silver, brass, plastic, steel, iron
Matit, maker
“This flute is made of carbon fiber, which combines light weight and superb rigidity. It uses elastomer gaskets instead of traditional leather or fish-skin pads. Unlike traditional pads, which are placed inside the key cups, the gaskets are attached to the tone holes on the body, and they reduce variation in the physical properties that affect the flute's timbre. Instead of the traditional springs, magnets return the keys to their resting positions.”
More unbelievable flutes coming up.. stay tuned!
