FOBefore you exclaim “No Pistons Highlights?”, my play-by-play sources only go back to the 2014-15 season, Jason’s last year in the NBA and second season in a non-Pistons uniform.
While the dearth of Will Bynum and Rodney Stuckey pick and roll reps is certainly far from ideal, Kemba Walker, Lance Stephenson and Mo Williams as J-Max’s set-up men is not a bad consolation price.
Maxiell (aka The Baby Eater according to Basketball Reference) was a predecessor of Quincy Acy and Kyle O’Quinn of sorts - a bruising, energy-oriented big with 2PT jump shooting proclivities (for better or worse).
He played the latter half of the 2000s, an era where long twos with a 40% conversion rate were still regarded as acceptable. Maxiell caught the tail end of Mo-Town’s 6 consecutive Conference Finals appearances. He played meaningful Playoff rotation minutes in his second and third seasons (17 MPG across 31 games in the ‘07 & ‘08 post-season runs).
From 2015-2017, J-Max played a season in China and Turkey respectively. In August 2017, Maxiell signed a ceremonial one-day contract with Detroit to officially retire a Piston.
