ELImprint Spine in Pilates
What It Is & How to Find It
Imprint spine is one of the first concepts we learn in Pilates, but many people aren’t sure if they’re actually doing it correctly.
In this reel, I walk you through a simple way to find your imprint spine so you can activate your core more effectively and support your lower back during Pilates exercises.
🌼 What is Imprint Spine?
A gentle posterior tilt of the pelvis where the lower back softly connects to the mat.
🌼 Why it matters
• Helps activate the deep core (transversus abdominis)
• Supports the lumbar spine during exercises
• Builds awareness of pelvic and spinal positioning
🌼 How to find it
1. Lie on your back with knees bent and feet on the mat.
Inhale to prepare.
2. As you exhale, gently draw the abdominals inward and allow the lower back to softly melt into the mat.
3. Keep the movement subtle, avoid pressing or forcing the spine down.
Understanding the difference between neutral spine and imprint can make a big difference in your Pilates practice and core activation.
