NILast week at Gabe’s spelling session I made a point of asking him if he wanted his hair cut. The last time he had it cut was in September for Gaby and Skye’s wedding! I happen to love his long hair and hoped he would ask for a trim at most. That was not the response we got. Gabe spelled “BE LIKE DAD.” Gabe’s dad had very short hair! I tried to convince him that he might feel cold having short hair. “STILL WANT SHORT.”
This is what Gabe has been wanting for so long, to make his own decisions! One of the first things he ever spelled to me was “NOW IT’S TIME TO ASK ME WHAT I WANT!”
Back then we were not able to spell as often as he does now and with little time there is only so much we can discuss. There are days that Gabe and I get to chat for long periods of time. I’m getting to know him on a deeper level each time. He has been talking about his dad whom he never got to meet. Now we can have conversations about him. Gabe wants to know about his teen years at the moment.
I contacted @_looksby_lil to make arrangements for this massive haircut. Gabe was so excited for his appointment!
I remember being so sad and concerned that Gabe would never be able to communicate his wants and needs with us. Gabe has been spelling for over two years and these years have been the best of my life! I can’t wait to find out how he feels about his new haircut!
